Wimsy.net Privacy Policy

Effective Date: 10/27/2025

Wimsy.net (“Wimsy,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is dedicated to protecting the privacy of our users, especially children. Our mission is to inspire imagination through personalized stories while adhering to the highest standards of safety and data protection.

1. Our Commitment to Children’s Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

Wimsy is a service directed to children under 13 and their parents. We strictly adhere to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and are committed to obtaining verifiable parental consent before collecting any personal information from a child under the age of 13.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information in two main ways:

A. Information Collected from Parents/Adult Users (Account Creation)

When an adult creates an account on Wimsy.net, we collect:

  • Contact Information: Name and Email Address (required for account creation, communication, and verified parental consent).
  • Payment Information: If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment details are collected and processed securely by our third-party payment provider (e.g., Stripe, PayPal). Wimsy does not store your full credit card information.

B. Information Used to Personalize Stories (Child’s Details)

To create unique, personalized stories, parents may voluntarily input the following details, which are treated with the highest level of security:

  • Child’s First Name or Nickname.
  • Child’s Favorite Things (e.g., a pet’s name, a favorite color, a preferred animal, or a fictional setting).
  • Story Prompt Details (the specific instructions you give to generate a story).

Crucially, we do not require or ask for any sensitive personal identifiers such as the child’s last name, address, phone number, or photograph.

3. How We Use the Information

The information we collect is used solely to provide and improve our service:

  • To Generate Stories: The child’s first name and favorite things are used directly to personalize and create the unique story content.
  • To Manage Accounts: Your email address is used to verify your account, process payments, and communicate important updates about the service and your privacy.
  • To Maintain Safety: We monitor story input to ensure our service is not used to generate inappropriate, abusive, or dangerous content.

4. How We Share Information

We respect your trust and will not sell any personal data, including children’s information, to third parties. We only share information in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service Providers: We use third-party tools for essential business functions (like cloud hosting, payment processing, and basic website analytics). These providers are bound by strict contractual obligations to keep all information confidential and to use it only to provide the services we’ve contracted them for.
  • Legal Compliance: We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with legal processes or protect the rights, property, or safety of Wimsy, our users, or the public.

5. Parent’s Rights and Choices

As a parent, you have full control over your child’s information on Wimsy.net:

  • Access: You can request to review the personal information we have collected about your child.
  • Deletion: You can request the permanent deletion of your child’s data and all story history.
  • Refuse Further Collection: You may revoke your consent and refuse any further collection or use of your child’s information at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us directly using the information provided in Section 7.

6. Data Security and Retention

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information transmitted to us from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access. We retain personalization details (Child’s Name and Favorite Things) only for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. If an account is deleted, all associated personalization data is permanently removed within a reasonable timeframe.
